Norman is a clinical teaching fellow at the Community Development Clinic. He joins UBalt Law from a varied private-sector career that included work in community development, project finance and renewable energy.
Before beginning his legal career, Norman worked with residents of low- and moderate-income communities to build the capacity of community organizations and secure public and private funding for childcare, job training and continuing education programs. As a lawyer, he was based for several years in East and Southeast Asia, focusing on renewable energy project development and finance. There, he represented clients in first-of-their-kind projects, including the development and financing of the largest solar installation at any airport in the world—at Kuala Lumpur International Airport—and the first (and only) American-owned utility-scale solar project in commercial operation in China.
Norman has also represented clients on renewable energy projects throughout the United States, including the financing of development-stage, utility-scale energy storage projects in California, the acquisition of tax equity investments in a portfolio of community solar projects in Minnesota, and the development of a series of anaerobic digester facilities at dairy farms in Arizona and Michigan.
He received his B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University and his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law. While in law school, he participated in Prof. Gerald Lopez's Community Economic Development Clinic, served as a teaching assistant for Prof. Derrick Bell's Constitutional Law course, and was a Junior Fellow at NYU's Institute for International Law and Justice.
