UBalt Students for Public Interest
The University of Baltimore Students for Public Interest (UBSPI) aim to inform fellow students about the breadth of public-interest law and to offer them the opportunity to experience this legal field first hand. For more than two decades, UBSPI has inspired students to pursue careers dedicated to serving underprivileged populations in an effort to obtain equal representation in the justice system.
Understanding the financial challenges that students committed to public interest law face, UBSPI, along with the School of Law and the Maryland Legal Services Corporation, provides stipends to student fellows working at public-interest organizations that otherwise could not afford to compensate them for their work.
Each year, UBSPI hosts an auction to fund grants for UBalt law students interested in working at these organizations. Previous grants have allowed students to work at places such as Legal Aid, House of Ruth, Advancement Project, HERO, Public Justice Center and the Homeless Persons Representation Project.

Were you a recipient of a UBSPI fellowship and want to share your story? Contact Jason Keller at jkeller@ubalt.eduEach year, UBalt Students for Public Interest (UBSPI) raise money for stipends for law students working for public interest organizations over the summer. Each stipend is $5,000 and helps offset living expenses for students working their entire summer at worthy organizations for free.
Without these stipends, many students wouldn't be able to afford to take an unpaid summer position with these organizations. And without the valuable work of our law students, many of these organizations would not be able to maximize their impact on our community.
