Setting Up Electronic Classrooms

In the morning Julie Coriaty, representing West's “TWEN”, and in the afternoon Carron Laake, representing Lexis' “web course”, gave practical demonstrations on setting up electronic classrooms and then helped faculty members set up electronic classrooms for their own courses.
Center for Family, Children & the Courts

The Faculty Research & Development Committee, in conjunction with the Center for Family, Children and the Courts (CFCC), offers an opportunity to learn more about the CFCC. Professor Barbara Babb and Senior Fellow Gloria Danziger discuss the strategic planning and technical assistance the Center is offering to family court systems and supporting organizations throughout the nation. They will also describe their work on an innovative approach to truancy intervention and reports being prepared at the state and national levels on juvenile justice systems.
External Financial Support for Faculty Research

Light lunch fare will be provided at this faculty forum on gaining external funding for support of individual faculty scholarship and research-related projects. Faculty members are invited to hear representatives of the Abell Foundation and the Open Society Institute as well as our own Arnie Rochvarg and Mike Higginbotham discuss legal research funding by foundations, research institutes and governmental organizations.
Implications of the Crawford Decision
Wed. Nov. 3rd, 12 - 1:30 p.m., Poe's
Join Professors Lynn McLain and Jose Anderson as they lead a panel discussion of the Supremes' March 8 decision in Crawford v. Washington. In Crawford, Justice Scalia reversed the last several decades of confrontation clause jurisdiction and took us back, he believes, to the meaning of the clause as of 1791, when the Sixth Amendment was ratified. Some of our faculty and some practitioners will discuss the effect of Crawford from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in Poe's on November 3.

Chuck Rees will report on the AALS workshop on assessment—evaluating students and evaluating outputs—and on the activities of the University's Assessment Committee.

Faculty Forum on Assessment

A luncheon in the Faculty Lounge will be the setting for a presentation and discussion of Chuck Rees' study comparing the effects of extensive (as opposed to minimal) term-time assessment on student performance and student satisfaction. The program will include not only a presentation by Professor Rees but also comments by Dean Holmes and Professors Bourne, McLain and Shapiro.
