Exam Software FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

Q: Where can I get the exam software for my laptop?

The exam software can be downloaded from the Extegrity/Exam4 site:

http://www.exam4.com/

Q: Can I use my Mac to take an exam?

Yes. There are Mac and Windows versions of the Extegrity software.

Q: How do I use the software?

Upon opening the software follow the on screen prompts to either begin a new exam or select a previous exam to save or submit. Once opening a new exam, you can input your exam ID (twice) and select the exam's course name or select practice exam to fully verify whether the exam software will work before the actual day of the exam.

  1. Set fonts.  DO NOT SET ANY OF THE TIMERS!
  2. On the following screen check the check box to verify the on screen instructions.
  3. The final screen is what exam mode you are using. Currently UB uses CLOSED  Type in the mode you are using and check the appropriate box. You may then begin your exam. If the software displays an error message, close the EXAM4 software and email the error code to the exam4 technical support at this website:

Q: Help, I can't submit my exam!

First attempt to submit after exam is complete.

If you cannot submit the exam:

  1. Save the exam to the hard drive in the default location suggested by the software.
  2. Close the exam software.
  3. Check your internet connection – can you reach internet sites like UB, Google, Yahoo, etc.? If you can't, you need to reestablish your internet connection by validating your username and password (logging back onto the wireless network).
  4. If you have an active internet connection and can see multiple websites, close Internet Explorer and re-launch the exam software.
  5. In the software choose to open previous exam and wirelessly submit.

If still not submitting, reboot the computer, log back in to the wireless network (making sure you can see websites), open the software, and submit again.

Q: Help, my computer locked up in the middle of the exam!

  1. If nothing is working and the task bars at the top are not functioning either, hold down the laptop power button until it turns off.
  2. Re-boot the computer re-open the software and start a new exam, continuing where you left off on the other exam.
  3. If you were in the middle of a question and can not remember where you left off, you should re-start that question to be sure.
  4. Give this restarted exam the same exam number as the one in which you were stuck, but with “A” after it; make a note on the blue book that the exam was continued.
  5. You will need to submit the original as well as the continuation.

Q: If the computer locks up at the end of the exam:

1)       Select “Save File Options” from the top left of the Exam4 screen.
2)       Choose “Save As…” and then pick an option for saving your exam—flash drive, local drive—whatever you’re comfortable with.  This creates a backup that can be used as a last resort.
3)       Exit the Exam4 program.  Your exam is stored in the state it was in when you tried to submit it, and you’ve got the extra backup we just created.
4)       Log back into the UB network, using your User ID and password.
5)       Restart Exam4.
6)       Choose the option for “Select existing exam” and then pick the exam you just completed.
7)       Hit the “Submit electronically” button.  You should then get a rather wordy receipt with a time stamp and a “your exam was successfully received”-type message.
