Upper-Level Writing Requirements

Upper-Level Writing Requirements for Law Review

Students working on the Law Review can earn credit for an upper-level writing requirement under the following conditions:

1. Student members of the Law Review may fulfill a scholarly upper-level writing requirement by completing a law review note or comment that is determined by the editorial board to be of publishable quality. They also are required to obtain a faculty member's approval that the note or comment meets the standards for a scholarly upper-level writing requirement in order for the writing requirement to be satisfied in this manner. Student members of the Law Review may complete a second scholarly writing requirement in the same manner.
2. Law Review students who are not awarded credit for a scholarly upper-level writing requirement by the Law Review editorial board because their work is not of publishable quality must fulfill their upper-level writing requirement(s) in the same manner as non-Law Review students.

Upper-Level Writing Requirements for Law Forum, Intellectual Property Law Journal, and Journal of Environmental Law

A student member of the Law Forum, Intellectual Property Law Journal, or Journal of Environmental Law may satisfy a first or second scholarly upper-level writing requirement by completing a note or comment that is found by the editorial board of the publication to be of publishable quality and that is approved by a faculty member as meeting the criteria for the upper-level writing requirement (a minimum of 25 pages, exclusive of foot notes or end notes).
