Students may take graduate-level courses that enhance their educational program at any accredited university. Up to six credits of graduate-level work may be transferred on a pass-fail basis, if the work is pre-approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. To take advantage of these opportunities at University System of Maryland institutions during Fall and Spring semesters, students register under a simplified process for registering for courses, Inter-Institutional Registration (IIR). IIR forms are available from the Office of Academic Affairs or from the Records Office.

Students must earn a C or better in any course taken at another school in order for them to receive academic credit for this course at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Only grades earned at the University of Baltimore School of Law or the University of Maryland School of Law will be computed in the grade point average.
Electives may be taken for grades at the University of Maryland Law School on a space available basis. The IIR procedure is used to register for these courses during the fall and spring semesters but not for the summer term. For summer course registration, students must apply as a visiting student through the Office of Admissions at the University of Maryland. Students should speak with the Office of Academic Affairs staff before beginning this process.
