Nick Allen

President: Nick Allen

 

Undergraduate:  University of Florida
Degree: B.A. English / B.A. Classical Studies
Law School Year: 3L
International Interests and Work Experience: Nick is a student fellow of the Center for International and Comparative Law and a staff editor of the CICL international law journal, Ius Gentium.  He is also the L.A.W. Scholar for the first year L.L.M. course Introduction to the Law of the United States.  He has competed in the Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition where he advanced to the semifinals.  In the summer of 2009, he interned at the Headquarters of the United States Air Force J.A.G. Corps and in the fall of 2008, he interned at WKWilburn, P.C., a private firm that practices international construction and business law as well as international arbitration.  Before coming to law school, he briefly did humanitarian work in Guatemala and studied abroad in Greece on an archaeology team.  He is proficient in Latin, conversational in Spanish, and classically trained in Attic Greek.

 

Vice President: Jessica Beaver

Undergraduate: The College of William and Mary

Degree: B.A. in Psychology/Sociology

Law School Year: 3L

International Interests and Work Experience: Three times in college, Jessica worked in an orphanage in Nicaragua.  She also traveled to Hungary as a student ambassador and Mexico on a missions trip.  She began working at a non-profit that works with detained immigrants last year and has not been able to stop.  Jessica hopes to work for the state department someday.

Undergraduate: Towson University

Degree: B.S. Political Science

Law School Year: 2L Evening, J.D./M.B.A.

International Interests and Work Experience: For the past five years, Helen has worked for a UK-based global bank.  One benefit of her employment there was the opportunity to travel both domestically and abroad; most notably, living in Kolkata, India, for several months while launching a new business process there in 2006.  Helen's personal travels have taken her to five continents and she hopes to reach number six within the next few years.  She is participating in the Curacao study abroad program this winter.

 

Secretary: Shea Hoxie

Undergraduate: University of Maryland, College Park

Degree: B.A. in Government & Politics and Criminology & Criminal Justice

Law School Year: 3L

International Interests and Work Experience: Shea is interested in several areas of International Law, ranging from International Business Law and International Criminal Law.  He hopes to pursue a career in Military Law or Law Enforcement.

 

Community Service Chair: Mariam Masumi

Mariam Masumi

Degree: B.A. Government and International Relations

Law School Year: 3L

International Interests and Work Experience: During college, Mariam was committed to several humanitarian causes involving Afghanistan.  She has worked in collaboration with GMU's Afghan Student Union, GW's ASO, several non-profit organizations, such as Future Generations, Children of War, and Afghans 4 Tomorrow, raising over $100,000 for reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.  During her first year of law school, Mariam and the ILS put together a winter supply drive for the people of Afghanistan, where over 50 large boxes of winter clothing, blankets, and school supplies for children were sent to Afghanistan.  Throughout law school, Mariam has worked as a judicial intern at the Baltimore City Circuit Court and was a student attorney for the UB Immigrant Right's Clinic.  She also attended TJSL's International Law Study Abroad Program in Nice, France in the summer of 2009.  Mariam is currently an Immigration Legal Intern at the International Rescue Committee, an organization that helps refugees and asylees resettle in the United States and assists them in various immigration matters.  She is also a judicial intern at the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Law School Year: 2L

International Interests and Work Experience: In 2007, Sara spent a semester in Paris, France, studying French language, history, and business at L'Institut Catholique de Paris with students from all over the world.  As an International Studies and History double-major, Sara published a paper on Kenya's Mau Mau Emergency in the Spring 2008 issue of the Towson University Journal of Historical Studies.   During her first year of law school, she worked in conjunction with other ILS members in the International Law and Policy Group, providing research on an emerging issue in international law.  During the summer of 2009, she worked as an EXPLOR summer associate at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP.  She plans to concentrate in International and Comparative Law.  Sara is proficient in written and spoken French.

 

First-Year Representative: Danielle Fahey

Undergraduate: Johns Hopkins University

Degree: B.A. International Studies

Law School Year: 1L

International Interests and Work Experience: Before starting at UB, Danielle was involved in human rights projects with JHU Amnesty International and with efforts to increase voter turnout and diversity with Vote for America.  She studied abroad in Ecuador and Italy, and studied Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Farsi. In the summer of 2008, she interned for Congressman Wayne T. Gilchrest, as well as the office of the State's Attorney for Caroline County.  In the summer of 2009, she interned at the office of Wharton, Levin, Ehrmantraut & Klein, spending a majority of her time on medical litigation.
