Date: October 24, 2009 beginning at 9am. Each year, the SBA organizes an sponsors a charity tag football tournament, BarBowl. This event is a great opportunity to socialize and compete with your law school peers. For the entry fee each team member will recieve a t-shirt and lunch. All proceeds from the event will be donated to a local charity designated by the winning team. This year BarBowl will be at the Mount Washington fields. Date October 30, 2009: University of Baltimore, in association with the Student Bar Association, brings inner city kids come to our school to trick or treat. Students go to classrooms and offices at UB to trick or treat when they otherwise would not be able to in their neighborhoods. Afterwards, there is a party for the students.
Date: TBA Otherwise known as Law School Prom (LSP) Barrister's Ball is the biggest event of the year for the law school. It occurs in the spring and is an excuse to go out and party with all your law school friends at an event with an open bar. The best pictures of the year tend to appear Sunday afternoon. Date: TBD Each Spring the SBA holds a kickball tournament to determine who would be king of the playground were we to trot it out at lunch every day now that we're in Law School. The event is a good time to be had by all.
Thursday August 20, 2009 at Little Havana: From 7-10pm Come out to Little Havana for the Back to School Happy Hour! $5 cover charge - gets you drink specials, free buffet, and a t-shirt (while supplies last - so get there early). Specials include $2 off all rail drinks, house wines, and domestic beers + $10 margarita pitchers! Proceeds from the event go toward the 3L class gift. Everyone is welcome, from Law Students and Professors to Alumni and Friends.
Election Date: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1-2, 2009. SBA Elections for the 1L Section Representatives will take place early in the scholastic year. Each section will be able to elect one student to represent their opinion on the Student Bar Association. Newly elected members get to come to Ocean City, MD for the Fall Retreat on September 11-13, 2009 where they will be oriented to their position's responsibilities and privileges. Although Law School is a huge responsibility in and of itself new students are encouraged to run for these challenging and rewarding positions. Reminder: Applications are due by Friday August 28th, to the Center for Student Involvement on the 3rd floor of the Student Center by 5 p.m.
Thursday September 17, 2009: September 17th is only 6 months away from one of Baltimore's most celebrated holidays- St. Patrick's Day. Join the SBA and fellow students, faculty and alumni at Dougherty Pub on 223 W Chase St. There will be plenty of drink and food specials.
Date: TBA The student governments want to take the time to thank those who work on campus who do not necessarily get the recognition they deserve on a day to day basis. Therefore, the SBA, in conjunction with the GSS, is hosting a luncheon for UB's physical plant and housekeeping staff.
Date: TBA. The SBA in conjunction with the Dean's Suite will provide an opportunity for students to come and hear either Professor Arnold Rochvarg or Bedford Bentley speak about the process of completing a bar application. There will be a question and answer period after the main talk and pizza will be made available in the lobby following the presentation. Additionally, bar review companies will likely be available outside after the presentation to consult students who might be interested in speaking with them.
