Certificate in Estate Planning - Coordination with the LL.M.

Starting in the fall of 2008, the University of Baltimore School of Law will offer a post-J.D. program that will lead to a Certificate in Estate Planning.  The certificate program is geared towards satisfying the specialized, advanced education needs of individuals wanting to practice in the area of estate planning.   It will be coordinated and administered by the director and staff of the University of Baltimore's Graduate Tax Program.

Under this program, a student will complete 12 credits of coursework in order to receive a Certificate in Estate Planning.  Students may complete the Certificate in Estate Planning as a stand-alone program or in conjunction with the University of Baltimore LL.M. in Taxation program.

Current LL.M. in Taxation Students:

Students completing the requirements of the LL.M. in Taxation program will also receive a Certificate in Estate Planning provided that they satisfy the curriculum requirements of the Certificate in Estate Planning program.  Courses may count towards both the LL.M. and Certificate requirements.

A current LL.M. student who has completed the requirements for both the LL.M. degree and the Estate Planning Certificate should submit the graduation application for the LL.M. degree and a separate application for the Estate Planning Certificate.  Only one graduation application fee is required if a student is applying for both the degree and the certificate.

LL.M. in Taxation Graduates:

Students who graduated from the University of Baltimore LL.M. in Tax program can receive advanced certificate credit for up to 6 credits earned in the LL.M. program for classes which fall within the curriculum of the Certificate program, provided that the student received a B or better for the course and enrolled in the certificate program within three calendar years of receiving the LL.M. degree.  Admission requirements and an application for the Certificate in Estate Planning may be found here: Admission Requirements for Certificate in Estate Planning.
