The Center for Families, Children and the Courts (CFCC), opened in August, 2000, serves as the focal point for the School of Law's work on reforming state courts into more appropriate forums for the resolution of family legal crises through the creation of unified family courts.
As a comprehensive center dedicated to improving the quality of justice provided to families and children in crisis, CFCC works to develop and teach educational programs that inform the justice system community about resolving family conflicts in a therapeutic, ecological, and service-based manner. CFCC also creates, fosters, and supports national and local efforts to integrate communities, families, and the justice system and to provide technical assistance and training to judges, attorneys, court staff, and community partners on a wide range of substantive issues which family courts must address, such as substance abuse, truancy, domestic violence, and high conflict divorce and mediation, among others.

By collaborating with existing programs in the School of Law, such as the Family Law Clinic, the Center for International and Comparative Law, and the Snyder Center for Litigation Skills, as well as with programs within other colleges of the University of Baltimore, such as the Schaefer Center for Public Policy and the Center for Negotiations and Conflict Management, CFCC's presence permits interdisciplinary enhancement of the School of Law's offerings in the family law area.
